Beavers Battle for Handicraft Glory

The 18th Beavers have started work on what they hope will win them the District Beaver Handicraft Competition in 2007. The competition, which sees colonies from all over Cambridge building themed models to win a trophy, is already in its fourth year and brings out a Beaver's creative side.

This year the competition carries the theme of 'dinosaurs'. It has two categories; the 'Individual Craft' that each Beaver makes by themself and the 'Colony Craft' that the entire colony makes together.

Following last year's 2nd place finish in the Colony Craft, the 18th are aiming one higher and have opted to concentrate solely on the Colony Craft for a second year. Assistant Beaver Leader, Simon Gates, is confident the 18th stand a good chance;

"I was fortunate enough to judge the Cromwell District Handicraft Competition in February so I'm quietly confident that the Beavers are putting something together that will please the judges. They're keeping it simple and everyone is putting a little bit towards it"

Judging for the District Handicraft Competition will be taking place during the morning of the St George's Day celebrations on 22nd April, with prizes being awarded during the afternoon service.
