18th Beavers in Big Pirate Adventure

Pirates28 Beaver Scouts from the 12th, 18th & 26th Cambridge colonies took part in an amazing pirate sleepover over the weekend. It was billed to be the most ambitious sleepover Emma and Simon have put together to date and didn't disappoint.

The event began with an opening ceremony and a flag break with a difference. Beavers were then asked to dress up like pirates by making a sword, an eye-patch, a hat and a telescope, before heading off for a 2-hour treat at the Funky Funhouse. Dinner followed, as well as a challenge to make a pirate ship before bed-time.

The adventure continued in the morning with a pirate assault course. Beavers has to throw themselves through tunnels, balance on beams and battle with balloon pirates...some of whom contained treasure! But if that wasn't active enough, they then faced the prospect of getting wet in a game called 'Walk the Plank'.

A few minor indoor activities, as well as breakfast, lead to a wide game outside. In small groups, the Beavers had to collect an entire suit of cards from A-K in order, with each suit shuffled amongst the various leaders hiding around the site. With little time remaining, the Beavers began packing away their crafts and collecting their belongings before a short snack, run about and closing ceremony.

Though there were a few minor mishaps, such as the evening entertainment being changed due to technical reasons, the sleepover was well received by everyone. Commenting on the event afterwards, Simon told us;

"The theme was inspired by a 16th Cambridge Cub Pack Holiday I went on last September. There were some really good ideas and by simplifiying parts of it and throwing our own ideas into the pot, Emma and I were sure we could pull off an excellent sleepover. I think we managed to achieve that and it's been a real team effort."

Planning is already underway on the next sleepover, which will be themed on Christmas and held sometime in December.
