18th Considering Ambitious Autumn Programme |

Following a successful upgrade of his Nights Away Permit, Beaver leader Simon Gates is now able to hold outdoor camping experiences for Cubs and Scout, and intends to make the most of the opportunity. For the first time in its history, the 18th may hold a group camp for Beavers and Cubs at a local campsite in October. The Beavers will spend one night away indoors while the Cubs enjoy two nights camping outside. It is hoped the camp will also benefit Akela (Charles Brown) and Baloo (Chris Gawthrop-Bleet) in acquiring their Nights Away Permits, which will allow the Cubs Leaders to hold camps whenever and wherever they please. The second event is a night hike, scheduled for November. The group last held a joint night hike in 2005; a 3 mile circuit along the river and back to the 26th HQ on Logan's Way, Cambridge. Asked whether these events were ambitious, Simon commented; “These events are big and ambitious…but the 18th like a challenge and all the leaders are ready to give it their best shot. We’ve never had a group camp since I became a leader in 2002, so this is new and exciting territory.” The success of the Non-Bonfire night in May, as well as continued cooperation for the up'n'coming Arbury Carnival has encouraged the leaders of both sections to get the group together to share some more of their scouting experiences.
