Group raise funds for Local Carnival

Akela calls for donationsBeavers, Cubs and Scouts from the 18th Cambridge Scout Group have been out in force raising money for their local carnival.

The Arbury Carnival, which takes place on the second Saturday in June every year, is usually a good fundraising and publicity event for the group, with the younger members eager to join in the parade and shake the buckets.

Starting at Cambridge Regional College on Kings Hedges Road, the 18th are amongst a number of local and regional community groups to collectively walk and perform for 1,000 onlookers along a mile route to Manor Community College, Arbury Road. This year's parade took on a "Colours of the Rainbow" theme.

Whilst the younger members were busy raising money for the Arbury Carnival Parade, supporters of the 18th were hard at work raising money for the group.

As has been a long-running tradition for the 18th, the group held a tombola on the carnival green to raise funds for future scouting projects. Over the course of the 7-hour event, the stall raised over £100.

Arbury Carnival 2009This year's carnival also had a competitive edge as the two Scout Patrols went head-to-head in their "Scouts does The Apprentice" task. Both teams had a budget of £50 to come up with a stall to raise money at the carnival. Both Team Delta and JBS Enterprise chose a "Beat the Goalie" theme, but executed their stalls differently.

JBS opted to use sponges and water, which led to many of the scouts getting wet and many of the public left deeply amused. Team Delta opted for the more traditional Beat the Goalie, with three shots on goal.
