Beavers Go Global with Beaveree 2007

Beaveree 200712 Beavers from the 18th Cambridge were amongst several hundred to attend the 2007 County Beaveree. The event, which is held once every two years, is a giant Beaver Activity Day which attracts Beavers from across the county, and this year offered an assortment of international-based activities.

The Beaveree was split down into 4 1-hour activity bases. In groups of around 180 Beavers, they shuffled around Cottenham Village College making cultural crafts, playing global games, hearing international stories and made music with a variety of instruments from across the world. In between each base, the Beavers also benefited from small breaks and run-about time.

Simon Gates, Assistant Beaver Scout Leader of the 18th and one of the chief organisers commented;

“We wanted something that would be relevant to the scouting centenary but different to everything we’ve already offered this year. By choosing international as a theme we’re introducing the Beavers to the concept that scouting is not only a phenomenon across the UK, but with 28 million members globally, a phenomenon across the world!”

“The Beaveree offered a chance to meet new people, make new friends, try something different and to have fun…whilst allowing its participants to experience elements of international cultures and customs in a variety of ways.”

Everyone who attended the event received a special Beaveree 2007 badge which they can wear on their uniform. The next Beaveree, already planned for 2009, will see very few of the participants of this year’s event taking part, as the majority of Beavers will have moved on to Cubs.
