The 18th Cubs swapped hiking boots for running shoes in an effort to raise money for a charity of their choosing.

As part of their Community Challenge Badge, the Cubs were asked to find sponsorship for running as many laps of the Arbury Town Green as they could within 45 minutes.

But it wasn't all about the running. Along the way, the Cubs faced a number of challenges, ranging from simple tasks such as tying knots and answering questions to completing laps in the style of something else, such as a headless chicken or wiggly worm!

Finding a Charity
A few weeks previous, the Cubs were asked to cast a vote on a selection of charities they would like to raise money for, based on a small presentations the leaders had put together.

Four charities were put forward, including Rainbows (a childrens hospice in Cheshire), The International Red Cross, Oxfam and the eventual winner, SSAFA (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association).

In total, the Cubs managed to complete a combined 400 laps of the green to raise £367 for SSAFA, which will be used to support people serving in the Armed Forces and their families.

John Pawley, who was representing the charity at the event, was pleased by the Cubs' efforts;

"It's good to see the Cubs not only having fun, but raising money for charity"

Young Cub Leader Mark Brown (Hathi), who helped organise the event, added;

"It's been a great evening. The enthusiasm shown by the boys has been phenomenal and the money raised has well exceeded expectations!"
