18th Leader wins Community Award |
||||||||||||||||||
At a special ceremony on 18th June, Emma was pitched against two other hopefuls in the category of “Beyond the call of duty” for her services for the local community. Despite being filmed during a Beaver meeting the month previous, Emma had no idea that the judges had picked her to receive the award. As well as scouting with the 12th, 18th & 26th Cambridge Beavers on a weekly basis, Emma is a well-respected, influential figure in the East Chesterton area of Cambridge, helping elderly residents and assisting with St George’s Church events. As well as receiving a glass trophy, Emma’s prize for winning the award is a luxury spa weekend for 2 valued at around £500. But if that wasn’t enough there was another shock on the cards! Emma’s mother, Lil Speed, also won an award in a different category, making it the first time a mother/daughter have won a set of awards in the same year. As a token to celebrate this fact, Emma also received 2 tickets to the "Last Night of the Proms" at Audley End in Essex. Coupled with Simon’s County Volunteer of the Year Award in September, the 18th Beaver leaders are now celebrating an awards double with Emma’s accolade. Well done Emma!
