18th attend Super St George's Weekend

St George's Day 2008Beavers and Cubs from the 18th Cambridge Scout Group have joined together with other scouts from across the district to celebrate St George's Day at Queen Edith School.

Every year, the district provide a morning of activities for the younger sections to celebrate scouting's patron saint and to reflect on the year gone by.

The Beavers used their imagination to take part in a variety of St George themed activities, including a 'Knights Training' obstacle course, dragon puppet show, parachute games and baking St George biscuits.

Meanwhile, the Cubs spent the morning competing against each other in the annual District Sports Day. In packs, the Cubs battled it out across numerous challenges; including throwing the furthest, long jump and distance running. There was even time for a wide game whilst the leaders counted up the scores!

Everyone joined together in the afternoon, along with other representatives from the district, for a campfire sing-song and a special candle-lit service. Former District Commissioner, Colin Daniels, presented the two main prizes of the day; first to the 16th Cambridge Beavers for their winning Craft Competition entry, then to the 28th Cambridge Cubs for winning the District Sports Day. The 18th came third.

Finally, each section then had to stand and renew their promise before a brief message of thanks and reflection rounded off the day.
