Beavers Get a Soaking at the District Aquathon |
||||||||||||||||||
The Beavers and leaders participated in 5 water-based activity bases; Water Science - A basic experiment looking at the properties of a simple cornflour and water mixture, and counted towards the 'Experiment' activity badge. Water Trails - Taking a cup of water round a roped obstacle course, the aim being to complete the course with as much water in the cup as possible. Water Funfair - Catapulting water balls and throwing sponges at Beavers in the stocks. Water Rockets - To launch pressurised plastic bottles into the air with water. Water Craft - To make a porthole-style aquarium using paper plates, cartoon fish, tissue paper for sea-weed and glitter to make the backing paper sparkle. But that was only half the fun. The second half of the day consisted of numerous water games, with losing teams getting soaked with buckets of water, and winning teams earning water bombs. The final 15 minutes was given over to a giant water fight, with no area safe from a drenching. Simon Gates, Assistant Beaver Leader and chief organiser, commented; "We've always traditionally had a day like this with the 18th for many years. They've always been popular and enjoyable, so why not up the stakes and get the rest of the district involved. It's been brilliant and I must thank the leaders for taking the day in the fun spirit that was always intended." The Aquathon is set to return in 2010. |
