Winter Chill for Easter Beaver Sleepover |
||||||||||||||||||
Despite 18 Beavers being registered to attend, illness played havoc in the build-up, preventing 2 Beavers from attending and forcing one to go home before nightfall. Starting at 2pm on the Saturday, the Beavers trekked through a snow flurry so they could enjoy two hours of running about and activity at the Funky Funhouse. Even the leaders joined in, chasing the Beavers around various obstacles in a game of 'tag'. By 5pm and time to walk back, the snow had disappeared and it was clear blue sky. A dinner of fish cakes and chips or sausage and chip was waiting for everyone back at the HQ, and this was followed by a number of crafts to wind the evening down. As night fell, the Beavers wrapped up warm, took out their torches and headed outside of some night games. In teams, they has to find cones hidden around the site. First team to find all their their colour cones, wins. The second game, stealth, required the Beavers to steal items without being caught. Starting at one end of the site, they sneaked their way towards the security zone, where leaders were patrolling to prevent the items being taken. If the Beavers were caught (and named) they had to make their way to start point and try again. The team who could steal the items first won. To finish the evening off, the Beaver changed into pyjamas, brushed their teeth and settled down for a late movie before going to bed. Much to their surprise, the Beavers woke up to snow on Sunday morning, all settled and crunchy on the ground. After a cooked breakfast and cereal, it was straight outside for a snowball fight and snowman building with the leaders. Also hidden around the site were mini-chicks which the Beavers needed to collect to earn Easter Eggs...but these were easy to find against the snowy, white background.
Unfortunately, time was short and although the Beavers made the parachutes, they ran out of time to test them. However, they did receive a special 'Beaver Sleepover badge' and will also receive their Nights Away Stage 1 on the first meeting back. They also took home a slice of Simon's 23rd Birthday cake, which Stef had kindly made. Beaver Leader Emma Roberts commented; "Nothing could have prepared us for the sort of weekend we've had. It's been nightmarish in that we've had to deal with three bouts of sickness for the first time...when previous sleepovers have been problem free. However, the Beavers have been sensible and cooperative so on the whole, even with the snow, it's been a good event." See pictures from the Easter Sleepover by visiting the Gallery |
