18th 'Bounce' for Cambridge United FC |
||||||||||||||||||
Cambridge United FC invited the scouts along as part of a special Junior U's 'Family and Friends' community week and offered the group 40 discounted tickets so they could come and cheer the team on against league rivals, Altrincham. In typical scouting style, the Beavers and Cubs met up an hour early so they could hike from the Green Dragon Bridge to the Abbey Stadium, covering some important badge work in the process. The group even came prepared with their own chant..."Bounce, Bounce, Cubs and Beavers!" adapted from the official 'Amber Army' version and involved a lot of jumping up and down in the South Stand. The first half saw few chances at both ends, but Cambridge took the initiative thanks to a Lee McEvilly goal and some inspired goal keeping by Altrincham's Stuart Coburn prevented the U's from extending the lead further. Cambridge headed into the interval 1-0 up.
The second half saw two goals, first an Altrincham equaliser 10 minutes from time which silenced the Cambridge supporters. However, Cambridge had the last laugh with a late goal from Mark Convery to settle the score 2-1 in United's favour. To finish the day off, the Beavers and Cubs hiked back to the Green Dragon Bridge in the dark, all happy and cheery, and were promptly picked up by the parents. |
