Cubs Turn Back the Clock |
||||||||||||||||||
As part of the 40th Anniversary celebrations, the Cubs have donned old-style green caps and are spending the Autumn Term going back to basics, completing work from the old Cub Handbooks of the 1960s. Modern Cub badge work like Astronomy, Equestrian and Skater have taken a back seat to traditional skills work such as preparing the flag, navigating around town, tying simple knots and performing to an audience. Each week the Cubs are advancing through each of the Bronze, Silver and Gold Arrow challenges, getting progressively more difficult as they go. Cub Scout Leader, Charles Brown, has been impressed by what he's seen so far; "I'm surprised by how much these Cubs are enjoying the Arrow Badge work, given it's the sort of activities we did when I was a cub scout. They all seem to be really enthusiastic about having their handbooks filled in every week and it just goes to show that some of the traditional skills can be just as fun when modernised." The Cubs have until the end of November to complete their Arrow badge work, half of which is being completed at home. The Cubs will be presented with their Arrows during a special presentation evening in December and will be allowed to wear them on their uniform as part of the 40th anniversary.
