18th Scouts Launch YouTube Account

The 18th Cambridge Scout Group has launched a brand new account on YouTube, courtesy of a small group of media-savvy Scouts.

Going by the name Greenstone Productions, the three young scouts; Daniel Major, Christopher Whitehead and Joshua Major, have begun creating and posting their own 18th-based video content that will allow a greater audience to view footage and slideshows of group events over the past few years.

The account, which acts as an extension to The Gallery, is solely run and administered by the young Troop members with the kind permission and supervision of the leaders.

Assistant Scout Leader, Simon Gates, who is supervising their work commented;

"It's great that these young scouts are taking an interest in promoting their group, and have taken the initiative to work on this project without prompting. It's entirely their idea, their content and their hard work. They take complete ownership of the footage and slideshows, unlike the Gallery which is censored by the leaders."

Empowering Young People

Greenstone has started out by using content currently available on The Gallery to produce slideshows via the online video editor, One True Media. However, over the coming months they will work closely with the leaders to learn skills in media production and presentation.

As well as being taught about using cameras and recording equipment, Greenstone will also get to grips with graphic and video editing software, such as Corel's Paint Shop Pro Photo, Adobe's Premier Pro and Dreamweaver - all currently used by the leadership team for the 18th's media work.

Accessing Greenstone's content on YouTube

Greenstone's 18th Cambridge content can be accessed by typing either "18thcambridge" or "18thcambridge4" into the YouTube search bar, or selecting the 18th Cambridge channel.

Greenstone also offer the following disclaimer for footage;

"If you are unhappy with any of the content please contact us by filling in the form below and one of our crew will get round to sorting it out to your satisfaction. Please note that this can take time to sort out so please be patient."
