Gullivers theme park in Milton Keynes was inundated with gaggles of witches and vampires as the 18th and 26th Cambridge Beavers came to town. The Beavers and their leaders donned spooky halloween costumes as part of a special outing incorporated into the Halloween Beaver Sleepover.
The group spent much of the day taking advantage of the themed activities on offer, including some unseasonally warm weather, and a variety of theme park rides including the rollercoaster, pirate ship and log flume. Owing to Gullivers's extended opening hours for the occasion, the Beavers even got to enjoy some of the activities in the dark!
On returning to Cambridge in the evening, the Beavers were tasked with "Trick or Treating" some of the local Chesterton residents...all of whom knew they were coming and were prepared with goodies and tricks. The Beavers each collected a sizable bag of toys and sweets before heading back to the headquarters for bed.
The morning started brightly with the traditional pillowfight and breakfast, before a morning stroll in the rain. The Beavers then split into three groups for a selection of halloween-themed crafts, including pizza making, biscuit decorating, tissue-paper masks and spooky sweet boxes.
To finish off, the Beavers had to eat a dangling doughnut without using their hands, and compete against each other in the apple-bobbing relay.
Emma Roberts, Beaver Leader for the 18th Beavers, commented on another successful event;
"The Beavers really enjoyed dressing up and going on the rides, and it's been different to a lot of the other sleepovers we've done. We didn't lose any of the Beavers, and they've been well behaved on the whole. The leaders and the parent helpers have really enjoyed themselves too."
Planning is already underway for the next Beaver Sleepover, which is anticipated to take place in February/March 2010 and include a trip to Ely's Strike Bowling and Planet Zoom playpen.
